Mundelein High hosts school security program Thursday

Mundelein High School officials are inviting parents to learn about new security protocols being implemented on campus. The session is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, in the auditorium at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St.

A new federally sanctioned approach to school security is being implemented at school. Instead of simply locking classrooms in crises, students and employees are being taught to take other steps to increase survivability, including evacuating or physically avoiding or engaging the threat.

The approach is known as "ALICE," which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. This school year began with training for all staff in the ALICE method. During the 2019-2020 school year, the school will hold an intruder drill where both staff and students will apply ALICE procedures.
