Learn about creating a "granny flat"

A "Granny Flat Academy" program about adding a second unit on homes for parents, children or others will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville.

The session is intended to help residents and elected officials learn more about cost, design features, typical ordinances and common concerns regarding "granny flats," technically called accessory dwelling units.

The session is sponsored by AARP in cooperation with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
