Fox Valley activists promote local Women's March

Organizers of the upcoming Fox Valley Women's March gathered Saturday in downtown Geneva to hang posters promoting their event and the movement that sparked a wave of political activism nationwide.

The Jan. 19 march and rally in Geneva will be held in coordination with hundreds of other demonstrations across the globe. In addition to promoting women's rights and spurring social change, the event aims to encourage residents to be politically engaged in their own communities, organizer Mary O'Connor said.

The Woman's March Chicago organization is not holding a 2019 event, prompting two grass-roots activist groups to lead the charge for a Fox Valley march. The event is being put on by We Can Lead Change - Fox Valley and the Kane County Coalition, though various other initiatives have gotten involved.

Organizers now are working to raise money and promote the Geneva march, which begins with a 10 a.m. rally at the Kane County Courthouse. For more information, visit the We Can Lead Change Facebook page or call (630) 338-8511, ext. 222.
