Believe Project: $100 to help single mom with transportation

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Vivian Menzies of Arlington Heights. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"I would like to help a single mom with three children who is working hard to rebuild her life.

"She has been in a shelter with two of her children for several months and is now in transitional housing with the hope of getting her own apartment. She is very close to getting a full-time job but has no transportation to get her youngest to day care and herself to the job.

"$100 would be a huge help to pay for bus fares or a cab if needed. Life without a car in the suburbs is very difficult. Many of her needs are being met by social service agencies, but there is no money for transportation.

"I would love to help her get over this stumbling block until she starts getting regular paychecks. Thank you for sponsoring this project."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 each day in January to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
