22 candidates file in Fox Valley community college board races

Twenty-two candidates are running in three contested community college board trustee races in the Fox Valley area in April.

Crystal Lake-based McHenry County College has five trustee seats of varying terms on the April 2 ballot.

Candidates for three 6-year terms include incumbents Molly Walsh of Crystal Lake, Mary Beth Siddons of McHenry and Thomas Allen of Lakewood. Also running for the 6-year seats are James Young and Maija Mizens, both of Crystal Lake, Carlos Arevalo and Robert Lush, both of Marengo, and William King of McHenry.

Candidates for one 4-year term are Cheryl Dawson of Harvard, Suzanne Hoban of Woodstock and Andrew Georgi Jr. of Hebron. Peter Suffield of Cary and Elizabeth Speros of Crystal Lake are vying for one 2-year term.

Incumbents Karen Tirio of Woodstock and David Domek of Lake in the Hills, whose terms end in April, are not running for re-election.

Elgin Community College has two 6-year seats up for election. The candidates are incumbents Clare Ollayos and Ryan Weiss, both of Elgin, and newcomers Nazneen Hashmi of Streamwood and Adriana Barriga-Green and Shane Nowak, both of Elgin.

At Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, candidates for two 6-year terms are Richard Guzman and Willie Mayes Sr., both of Aurora, and Tina Willson of Montgomery. Incumbent Greg Thomas of Aurora is running for one 4-year unexpired term. Current board President Richard Dickson of Bristol and Trustee Richard Bodie of Aurora are not seeking re-election.
