Daily Herald Holiday Lights Contest Editor's Choice winner: Fox Valley

Brian Flosi of 6N020 Old Homestead Road in St. Charles is the Daily Herald Holiday Lights Contest Editor's Choice winner in the Fox Valley for 2018.

Q. How long have you been decorating your house like this?

A. My wife and I have been decorating our home every year for about 16 years and the display gets bigger and better each year. It finally grew to the point that it was bigger than we can manage ourselves, and that's when we brought in Epic Light Shows to assist with the installation and programming the past few years.

Q. What inspired you to go all out with your decorations?

A. We always enjoyed driving around to look at Christmas lights during the holiday. It really puts you in the Christmas spirit and now is our chance to provide that joy to others. We love the positive effect it has on the community.

Q. How many hours does it take to put up the display?

A. It takes a crew over a week to install, plus all the countless hours behind the scenes fabricating the new props and programming all the songs to synchronize with the lights before the install takes place.

Q. How many strings of lights are involved?

A. All of our lighting is done with pixel lights where each pixel can be computer controlled independently.

Q. How much does your electric bill spike in December?

A. Honestly, we pay a fixed amount each month, so I'm not quite sure how much the lights impact our bill.

Q. What do your neighbors think of your display?

A. They love the front row "best seat in the house" view.
