Believe Project: $100 for woman helping boyfriend battle rare disease

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Elizabeth Blalock of Arlington Heights. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"I am writing to ask you to consider my friend, Donna, as a recipient of the $100 Believe Project.

"Donna is and has been the sole support and caretaker for her boyfriend for many years. Her boyfriend has been battling a rare disease, Oromandibular dystonia, that has stumped doctors. Various medications have been tried, but nothing seems to work very well. He is now in a nursing home with a feeding tube.

"Meanwhile, Donna visits him for several hours twice a day, some in the daytime and then again in the evening. When not with him, she takes care of both her home and her boyfriend's.

"Donna has stood by her boyfriend through years of struggles. She is an angel refusing to abandon him. I think the money would express the love that exists in the world and prove to her that she is not alone."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 each day in December to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
