No charges in fatal Des Plaines crash

No charges have been filed and alcohol or drugs were not a factor in crash that killed a 55-year-old South suburban woman early Saturday as she walked outside her workplace in Des Plaines.

Police say officers were called to the crash scene near 200 E. Touhy Ave. about 5:51 a.m. to reports of an accident involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived to find Elaine Marshall of Dolton in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two drivers at the scene told police they had hit Marshall with their vehicle. A third driver later arrived saying the same. All three cooperated with investigators, police said.

An investigation determined that Marshall was attempting to cross Touhy after finishing her work shift at LSG Sky Chefs when she was hit by a 2008 Ford Edge driven westbound by a 45-year-old Lake Bluff woman, police said. She then was struck by a 2013 Mercedes C300 driven by a 37-year-old Beach Park man and a 2016 Honda Fit driven by a 30-year-old Chicago woman.

It was dark at the time and there was little to no artificial lighting in the area, according to police.
