Lake County sheriff's police dog finds fleeing suspect
Lake County sheriff's police reported another success by its canine team with the location late Wednesday of a fleeing car theft suspect.
About 11:15 p.m., Zion police asked for the canine team to help locate two offenders who fled from a stolen vehicle after it had been stopped. Sheriff's Deputy John Forlenza and canine Dax responded and tracked to a backyard several homes from where the two fled. Dax alerted his handler to a vehicle in the backyard and located a juvenile hiding under a blanket in the back seat. It was determined the juvenile was the driver of the stolen vehicle, police said.
Zion police located the other occupant, Juamil L. Gordon, 18, of Waukegan. The juvenile was taken to Hulse Juvenile Detention Center near Vernon Hills and was petitioned in juvenile court on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding. Gordon was cited for criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and resisting a police officer and released on recognizance.
