Water back on at Lake County jail

Water is back on at the Lake County jail after it was turned off over the weekend as part of an ongoing construction project.

"We appreciate the patience of the inmates, their families, the community, and our correctional staff during the ongoing jail renovations," the Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Sunday afternoon. "The inconveniences created by the construction work will result in a modernized jail facility, which will help ensure the safety of inmates and correctional officers."

The move was needed to allow contractors to add new shut-off valves in the facility, due to the remodeling of the booking area. Inmates were provided with bottled drinking water, and additional water was made available to any inmate requesting it, officials said.
