Cops help kids fill Christmas wishes in Mundelein

Fifty-two needy kids from the Mundelein area had their Christmas wishes granted Saturday as the Mundelein Police Department held its annual "Shop with a Cop" program at the Super Target.

"This is probably one of the funnest things we do all year," said Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther.

Police department members, school employees and social agencies nominated children who have a social or economic need to be part of this program. The children were given a $100 gift certificate to buy some of the things on their Christmas wish lists.

"What's funny is the majority of the time they end up picking something out for their brother or their sister or their mom or their dad. It's a great feeling," Guenther added.

Also in attendance were members of the Mundelein Fire Department and alumni from the Citizens Police Academy.

The 2018 "Shop with a Cop" program was made possible by donations from the Medline Charitable Foundation, Super Target, Mike's Appliance Repair, Barrington Moose Lodge and private citizens.
