Three men indicted in fatal shooting of West Chicago man

Three reputed gang members, all already behind bars, have been indicted in the Nov. 8 shooting death of 26-year-old Alexander Nicolas.

The three - Juan Calderon, 21, of Aurora; Emilio Guillen, 27, of Rockford; and Fredi Bautista, 26, of West Chicago - each have been indicted on six counts of first-degree murder and one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Guillen also has been indicted on a separate count of being an armed habitual criminal.

Prosecutors said the three men beat Nicolas before Calderon shot him in the back of the head after they passed him on the 600 block of East Forest Avenue and identified him as a rival gang member.

The three men then fled in Guillen's car to an acquaintance's apartment on Marshall Boulevard in Aurora. While there, prosecutors said, Calderon burned his clothes on a small path.

A mother walking her child to school on the morning of Nov. 9 discovered the victim's body in the side yard of a home and called 911.

The next morning, Rockford police noticed Guillen's car parked about a block away from his residence on the 600 block of Ranger Street, authorities said. After conducting a brief surveillance on the residence, Rockford police arrested Guillen. Calderon was arrested days later in Aurora and Bautista was captured in southern Illinois.

Bail was set at $4 million for Calderon, who is accused of firing the fatal shot, and $2 million for Guillen, who was driving. Bautista is being held on $1.5 million bail.

Guillen is expected to be arraigned Thursday morning. Bautista's arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 10 and Calderon's on Dec. 12.
