Police searching for man who tried to rob Beach Park convenience store

Lake County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man they say tried to rob a Beach Park convenience store Tuesday afternoon.

According to the store clerk, a man wearing a black mask and carrying a big knife entered the store at around 3:15 p.m. and demanded money. The man fled before obtaining any money or property, according to a news release issued by sheriff's office.

A canine team arrived shortly after the man left and tried to track him. The trail ended a short distance from the convenience store, which is on the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road. Police believe the suspect likely entered a vehicle and drove away.

The man was described as black, around 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighing around 170 pounds.

In addition to the black mask he was wearing a black jacket, gloves and blue jeans. According to the news release it is possible he fled in a dark blue or black late 2000s model Chevrolet Impala with tinted windows.
