25 years for Palatine man who abused two young girls

A Palatine man who prosecutors said sexually assaulted two young girls during a five-year period was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Joseph Griffin, 20, received the sentence in exchange for pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Griffin, who had been held on a $2 million bail, received credit for 866 days in custody, court records show.

Prosecutors said he began assaulting the girls when they were between the ages of 1 and 2.

As a condition of his plea, court records show Griffin must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He was also ordered to pay $1,109 in fines.
