$100 to help single mom battling illness

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Elizabeth Mari of Elgin. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"We have a part-time secretary who is a single mom and had some real tough circumstances this year.

"She was bitten by a brown recluse spider in October and missed a month of work and had to have two surgeries. She ran out of sick days so was not paid for the majority of this time.

"She has raised two beautiful daughters who are on partial scholarship at Converse College in South Carolina. She is a beautiful, positive person, and I just know that this would help a little during this time. Maybe it would help bring her daughters home at Christmas, because she was unable to afford to bring them home for Thanksgiving."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 each day in December to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
