No one injured in Elgin house fire

A house fire in the 1100 block of Highbury Drive in Elgin damaged the attic and roof, but all of the one-story home's residents managed to escape, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department.

Fire crews arrived on the scene at 5:33 p.m. and it was under control by 5:43, the release said.

The fire didn't damage more than the roof and attic but the residents have been displaced, according to the release.

Fighting the fire was made more difficult for the 24 firefighters and two chief officers on the scene because of the weather conditions, according to the release. The recent snowfall and frigid outside temperature meant water from the hoses kept freezing, making conditions slippery, the release said.

No firefighters were injured and the cause of the fire is still being investigated, according to the release.
