$750,000 bail for woman charged in Carpentersville stabbing, home invasion

A 42-year-old Streamwood woman is being held on $750,000 bail on charges that she forced her way into an apartment in Carpentersville and stabbed a man in the hand.

Shanetta R. Johnson, of the 4000 block of Club Tree Drive, faces two counts of home invasion, two counts of aggravated domestic battery and trespassing, all felonies. She also is charged with three misdemeanors - two more counts of domestic battery and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, according to Carpentersville police and Kane County court records.

The charges stem from a case that Carpentersville Police Chief Michael Kilbourne said began around 1 a.m. Nov. 15.

The victim, a 45-year-old man, was at a female friend's apartment on the 0-99 block of Oak Crest Drive when Johnson showed up at the door and an argument began, Kilbourne said.

While armed with a knife, "she allegedly forced her way into the apartment, cutting the 45-year-old man in the hand in the process," Kilbourne said.

The victim was treated for a "severe laceration" on his hand; Kilbourne could not immediately specify the size of the knife, which hand was cut, or how Johnson was eventually arrested.

If convicted of the most severe charge, Johnson faces six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation. She must post $75,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending. If she does, she is to have no contact with the victim, the victim's friend, and to stay away from their apartment units, both on the 0-99 block of Oak Crest, court records show.

Johnson is next due in court Wednesday.
