Police say Waukegan woman fatally stabbed husband

A 38-year-old Waukegan man was stabbed to death by his wife, Waukegan police said Tuesday.

The man's wife, identified by police only as a 47-year-old woman, called 9-1-1 about 7:30 a.m. and told dispatchers that she had just stabbed her husband, authorities said. Officers were dispatched to Swallowtail Drive and saw woman leaving the home in a black SUV. Police pulled the car over near Belvidere Road and Knight Avenue and found the woman who'd stabbed her husband inside, police said.

The woman had serious self-inflicted injuries and was rushed to the hospital, police said.

Police found the man in the home, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of husband and wife were being withheld until their families could be notified.

An autopsy on the husband will be performed Wednesday by the Lake County coroner's office.
