Elgin man charged with dealing drugs to undercover officers

A 23-year-old Elgin man faces a litany of drug and violence charges after he sold heroin to undercover police officers and rammed two police cars while attempting to flee his arrest, authorities said Tuesday.

Between Oct. 12 and Nov. 7 Larnell L. Love IV sold heroin to undercover police officers, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Kane County state's attorney's office. On Friday, police officers pulled Love over during a traffic stop and attempted to take him into custody. Instead, Love drove away, crashing into two patrol cars in the process, authorities said.

After police arrested Love they said they found a loaded handgun and a digital scale in his car.

Love has been charged with five felony counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two felony counts of criminal damage to government property, one felony count of fleeing police, as well as charges for illegally owning a gun and drug paraphernalia.

The Illinois State Police and the North Central Narcotics Task Force conducted the investigation that led to Love's capture.

Love's bond was set at $300,000 and he will remain in Kane County jail throughout his trial unless he posts a $30,000 bond.
