Police: Aurora woman bit off man's right ear in argument
An Aurora woman faces felony domestic battery charges after prosecutors say she bit off a man's right ear Sunday night during an argument while watching TV.
Nelida Mendoza, 59, of the 1000 block of Jericho Road, is charged with aggravated domestic battery causing great bodily harm. The situation arose after Mendoza and the victim began arguing while watching TV, according to Kane County prosecutors.
The victim went to an area hospital for treatment, where medical personnel called police, authorities said.
Prosecutors declined to say whether doctors were able to reattach the man's ear, citing privacy laws.
Mendoza was released from the Kane County jail Monday after posting $700 of her $7,000 bail, which was set Monday morning, records show.
Court records show Mendoza does not have any previous misdemeanor or felony arrests in Kane County.
If convicted, she faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.
She is next due in court on Nov. 28.
