Pedestrian struck, killed by car in Lindenhurst

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car Sunday evening while attempting to cross Route 45 in Lindenhurst, authorities said.

A 38-year-old Waukegan man was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue south on Route 45 when he hit the female victim about 5:25 p.m. just south of Sand Lake Road, according to a news release from Lindenhurst police.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Monday morning by the Lake County coroner's office.

Additional information was not immediately available. An investigation is ongoing by Lindenhurst police with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the coroner's office.
