Grayslake Central hosts annual Turkey Trot fundraiser

Grayslake Central High School got into the Thanksgiving spirit a few days early Sunday with the school's sixth annual Turkey Trot.

Grayslake Central Booster Club President Anthony Guerrieri said that approximately 225 people, including about 30 walkers, participated in the 5K event. Among the participants were grammar school students, high school students and high school staff members.

The event started and ended on the high school track, though the majority of the route was in the neighborhood south and west of the school.

Megan Moran of Round Lake ran the event while wrapped in a blanket on the chilly 30-degree morning.

"My brother asked me to do this with him," Moran said. "He runs for the Grayslake Central cross country team, and he asked me if I wanted to do a 5K."

The booster club raises money for the athletic programs at Grayslake Central. The money is used for the "extras" for the sports programs, including warmups, gear bags, meal monies for trips and the lettering on the football field, Guerrier said.
