Jingle all the way: Wheaton race raises money for Arthritis Foundation

Many a running shoe was adorned with jingle bells Saturday at the Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Run at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

Runners also sported red-and-white socks, Santa Claus hats, Christmas-light necklaces, red-and-green tutus and more Christmas-related wear, as they ran the 5K course with snowflakes falling around them.

"We like to embrace the spirit of the holidays," said Jessica Bearak, executive director of the foundation's Illinois branch.

The run is a signature event for the organization. About 450 people ran or walked. There was also a reception, where people could visit with Santa Claus and children could make a craft item.

But despite the snow, several runners noted it didn't feel too cold during the run

The Arthritis Foundation funds research into arthritis, provides education about the disease, offers support programs and programs to help people manage arthritis, and lobbies legislators on issues such as access to health care.
