Probation for Elgin teen who injured motorcyclist in Schaumburg crash

A teenage driver from Elgin charged with causing an accident that injured a motorcyclist was sentenced earlier this week to two years' probation and ordered to perform 30 hours of community service.

Nathaniel Rodriguez, 19, pleaded guilty to failure to report an accident involving injuries in exchange for the sentence, according to court records and prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez was in the far right lane of a five-lane road at the intersection of East Higgins and East Frontage roads in Schaumburg on Aug. 4 when he crossed several lanes of traffic to make a left turn.

He first struck a motorcycle, whose driver received 16 to 18 stitches. He then struck another vehicle before leaving the scene, prosecutors said. Rodriguez turned himself in to police several hours later.
