One injured, dog missing after fire in Tower Lakes

One person received minor injuries and a dog is missing after a fire in Tower Lakes late Thursday, authorities said.

Firefighters from the Wauconda Fire Protection District were called to the 100 block of South Hills Drive at 9:06 p.m. for a fire in the upper level of a home, authorities said.

With the help of a Tower Lakes police officer, all residents and several dogs escaped the home before firefighters arrived on scene, authorities said.

One male resident was transported the hospital for minor injuries, and one of the dogs is missing, authorities said. .

Because of a lack of fire hydrants in the area, the blaze was upgraded to a mutual aid box to bring in more water and manpower.

The damage to the home is estimated to be $250,000, authorities said.

Residents who were displaced by the fire stayed with a relative Thursday, authorities said.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.

Wauconda was assisted by multiple fire departments including: Lake Zurich, Barrington, Countryside, Barrington, McHenry, Buffalo Grove, Algonquin, Countryside, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Fox Lake, Palatine Rural, Palatine, Lake Villa, Grayslake, Round Lake, Woodstock, Marengo, Spring Grove, Richmond, Deerfield, East Dundee, Crystal Lake, Cary. In addition, Tower Lakes Police, Lake County Sheriff, and the MESS Canteen assisted at the scene.
