Man accused of shooting at Bloomingdale officers faces 10 felony charges

A man accused of firing several shots at Bloomingdale police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call last month has been indicted on 10 felony charges related to the shooting.

Raymond Vieyra, 42, of Bloomingdale pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at police officers, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of not having a Firearm Owners ID card, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of being an armed habitual criminal.

The reported gang member with more than 40 previous arrests has been held on $3 million bail since his Oct. 21 arrest.

Bloomingdale Director of Public Safety Frank Giammarese said police were responding about 4:30 a.m. Oct. 21 to a domestic violence call at Vieyra's residence on the 300 block of Plymouth Lane, when Vieyra fired at least six shots at officers.

Prosecutors allege Vieyra came out of the home's garage and began shooting at the officers. One of the officers returned fire. Vieyra, who was not hit, then retreated back into the residence. A short time later, he stepped out of the home with his hands up and was arrested, authorities say.

Vieyra's next scheduled court date is Dec. 3, before Judge John Kinsella. If convicted, he would face between 10 and 45 years in prison.
