Glenbard East student charged with making online threats

A male Glenbard East High School student has been accused of posting a threatening Snapchat video directed at the school.

The juvenile has been charged with two felony counts of making a false report of a threat to a school.

He appeared in juvenile court Tuesday afternoon where Judge Robert Anderson ordered the juvenile be released to the custody of his parents on home detention.

Lombard police received information on Monday regarding a threatening Snapchat video post in which the teen was seen holding a gun while making threatening statements. Lombard police investigated the post and arrested the teen Monday.

"As I have said many times in the past, students have got to learn that any threatening message directed at a school is not a joke," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "Any threat made against a school, whether made in jest or not, will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. Make no mistake, once we identify the source of any threat, charges will be filed accordingly."

The teen's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 21 in front of Anderson.
