Schaumburg community gathers to honor its veterans

Veterans, first responders and community leaders gathered Sunday at Veterans Gateway Park in Schaumburg for a solemn ceremony honoring those who served their country in the military.

Mayor Al Larson and Army veteran James Thies, post commander of VFW Post 2202, were among the speakers at the annual event this year.

The ceremony also featured participation from the Schaumburg Police and Fire departments, presentation of colors, spiritual invocations, a playing of taps and the distribution of poppies.
