Police investigating after body found in front of West Chicago home

West Chicago police and members of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Friday morning in the front yard of a home on the 600 block of East Forest Avenue, authorities said.

A man who lives directly north of the split-level house discovered the body as he was leaving for work and called 911. Police Chief Michael Uplegger said the neighbor reported the discovery around 7:30 a.m.

Uplegger said police had no one in custody as of Friday afternoon but are "interviewing a lot of people right now." The death appears to be an isolated case, he said, and there is no threat to the community.

Uplegger declined to say whether investigators have found signs of foul play.

"They're following up on everything right now," he said. "It's too early in the investigation for me to - I really don't want to release anything yet."

Police are "following up on a lot of leads," Uplegger said.

"We don't have any suspect that we're actively searching for right now that we know of, an identity," he said.

Investigators are working to identify the body. An autopsy is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the county coroner's office.

"Unless there is substantial information developed prior to the autopsy, we will provide additional details about this investigation after the scheduled autopsy," police said in a written statement.

The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he was leaving for his job when he saw boots in his neighbor's yard. When he looked closer, he said, he realized there was a body and immediately called 911.

Another neighbor who asked not to be identified said teenage twins live in the home and graduated from West Chicago Community High School last spring.

Investigators have installed a green canopy where the body was found, and officers were seen scanning the yard with what appeared to be a metal detector.

The DuPage County state's attorney's office is assisting with the probe.
