Hanover Park woman gets 9 years for Streamwood attack prompted by online posts

A Hanover Park woman charged with three other Hanover Park residents in an Aug. 21, 2017, attack on a Streamwood man was sentenced to nine years in prison, court records show.

Valerie Munoz, 24, pleaded guilty Wednesday to armed robbery without a firearm in exchange for the sentence.

Munoz was also ordered to pay $649 in fines.

During the defendants' bond hearing last year, prosecutors said Munoz suspected the 20-year-old victim had something to do with defamatory statements posted about her online.

According to prosecutors, Munoz arranged to meet the victim in Challenger Park in Streamwood, where the other defendants attacked him, struck him on the head with bats and took his cellphone and some marijuana.

Streamwood police arrived to find the man bleeding from head injuries, authorities said.

Munoz and her co-defendants Edwin Rea, 23, and Javier Lopez, 24, were arrested Aug. 26. William Neal, 24, was arrested Aug. 30, authorities said.
