Palatine Legion hosts Veterans Day events

Palatine American Legion Post 690 is holding a Veterans Day program and other related activities on Saturday and Sunday, at the Veteran's Memorial at Community Park and at the Legion post, 122 W. Palatine Road.

The weekend begins with an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the post with snacks, appetizers and an open bar. The post will be collecting donations such as kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items throughout the weekend for Veterans Exiting Homelessness.

After the open house, the Legion will hold its monthly bingo night starting at 7 p.m.

The Veterans Day observance will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, at the Veterans Memorial on the corner of Northwest Highway and Wood Street. Representatives from the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion will speak, and the Legion color guard and rifle squad will participate.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited back to the American Legion to honor those who have served the country.
