Wehrli fends off Montgomery in 41st Illinois House District

Naperville Republican Grant Wehrli narrowly defeated an opponent who doesn't actually live in the state legislative district he's represented since 2014.

With all 101 precincts reporting unofficial totals, Wehrli secured his third term in the 41st House District with 24,034 votes. His Democratic challenger, Valerie Montgomery, had 21,761.

Overshadowing the race was a residency error by the DuPage County Election Commission, which incorrectly placed Montgomery's Naperville home in the 41st District. Wehrli pointed out the error in a lawsuit, and a court ruled Montgomery lives in the 49th District. A defiant Montgomery stayed on the ballot, but never responded to repeated requests for interviews.
