Wasik defeats incumbent Werfel for Lake County Board District 6 seat

Democrat John Wasik defeated incumbent Republican Jeff Werfel to take Lake County Board's District 6 seat, according to unofficial vote results.

With all 22 precincts and early votes reporting late Tuesday, Wasik took in 6,436 votes over Werfel's 5,105 votes, unofficial vote totals showed late Tuesday.

Wasik, 61, of Grayslake, is the co-founder of Citizens Action Project, a nonpartisan group which works toward property tax relief.

Werfel, 55, of Grayslake, was seeking his second term on the Lake County Board. He previously served on the Grayslake Village Board for 11 years.

The 6th District contains the western portion of Grayslake and all of Hainesville.
