Republican Weber secures District 13 seat on Kane County Board

Republican Steve Weber secured a District 13 seat on the Kane County Board on Tuesday after narrowly defeating Democratic opponent Lark Cowart.

Weber received 4,628 votes to Cowart's 4,464, according to unofficial tallies with all precincts reporting. He will replace 12-year incumbent Philip Lewis, whom he beat in the March GOP primary.

Calling himself "very conservative," Weber, 40, said he wants to eliminate waste and maintain the county's property tax freeze.

Cowart, 41, previously worked as a Kane County assistant state's attorney and said across-the-board budget cuts negatively affect county services.

Both candidates live in St. Charles.
