Link reelected to Illinois Senate

Veteran incumbent Democratic state Sen. Terry Link appears headed for another term in Springfield, holding a commanding lead for his 30th District seat over Republican challenger Soojae Lee.

With all 104 precincts in Lake County reporting, unofficial totals showed Link, of Vernon Hills, leading Lee, an attorney from Buffalo Grove, 35,538 to 16,626. Link also led with 2,120 votes to 1,164 for Lee with six of seven precincts reporting in Cook County.

Link has represented the sprawling 30th District since 1986. The district encompasses 18 communities stretching from Waukegan in northeast Lake County to Wheeling in Cook County. Link is the assistant majority leader in the state Senate and the longtime Lake County Democratic Party chairman.

Link during the campaign said he wants to modernize the tax system and supports efforts to let voters decide if the Illinois Constitution should be amended to implement a graduated income tax.

Lee, who was making his first run for public office, didn't support a graduated income tax.
