Krishnamoorthi takes strong lead over Diganvker

Schaumburg Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi appears to be sailing toward a second term representing Illinois' 8th Congressional District over the challenge of crosstown Republican rival Jitendra "JD" Diganvker.

With 31 percent of precincts reporting, Krishnamoorthi had 63,112 votes, or 67 percent of the total, to Diganvker's 31,113.

Though competing for a congressional seat in a deeply divided Washington, both Diganvker and Krishnamoorthi spoke during the campaign of the bipartisan appeal of their respective candidacies.

Diganvker said many union members signed his nominating petitions, and during his previous job as an Uber driver he heard from thousands of people of all political persuasions. While non-Republicans did not give him campaign money, he believed many would give him their votes.

Krishnamoorthi said he won nearly 60 percent of the vote in the last election despite the fact Democratic voters are not a majority of the district.

He added that he believes his legislative record and delivery of constituent services since 2016 have demonstrated his bipartisanship.
