Democrat Kifowit re-elected to state House 84 seat

Stephanie Kofowit appears to have retained her 84th state house seat Tuesday night.

With 61 of 62 precincts reporting, the Oswego Democrat has 14,694 votes while Republican Patty Smith of Aurora has 7,052, according to unofficial vote totals.

Kifowit has been a state representative since January 2013.

Smith promised to oppose efforts to convert the state to a graduated-rate income tax. Kifowit, meanwhile, noted it would take a constitutional amendment by voters to change the income tax, and said legislators would be obligated to do what the voters want.

The 84th District includes parts of Aurora, Montgomery, Naperville and Oswego.
