Barrington officials have announced the winner of this year's scarecrow contest.

Nonprofit Soul Harbour Ranch Animal Therapy Program and Soul Buddies Animal Therapy Club, a Barrington-based animal-assisted interventions program, took the honor for best scarecrow.

Specially trained and registered therapy animals and volunteers visit hospitals, hospice and homes for the disabled. The club allows teens from Barrington High School to take part in fulfilling Soul Harbour's mission. Soul Harbour's animals include a herd of miniature therapy horses.

Soul Harbour's and Soul Buddies' scarecrow display was outside Showtime Eatery adjacent to Catlow Theater in downtown Barrington and included a horse.
