Round Lake Beach bicyclist dies after being hit by SUV

A bicyclist died Tuesday night after being struck by an SUV in Round Lake Beach, police say.

The 56-year-old Round Lake Beach man was riding his bicycle across Fairfield Road at Hillside Drive when he was hit about 7:30 p.m. by a 2006 Honda Pilot driven by a Lake Villa man, according to police.

The Pilot's 41-year-old driver had been traveling south on Fairfield Road when the SUV struck the bicyclist, police said. The driver remained at the scene until authorities arrived.

The bicyclist was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and later was pronounced dead. Authorities have not released his identity. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating the crash.

It's the second time in eight days a bicyclist has been killed when struck by a vehicle in Round Lake Beach. Francisco Suarez Lopez, 67, died Oct. 22 when a car hit him as he walked a bicycle across Route 83 near Monaville Road, authorities said.
