Hit-and-run driver strikes trick-or-treater in Libertyville

A 10-year-old boy who was trick-or-treating with other children Wednesday night in Libertyville was struck by a car whose driver fled, police say.

The trick-or-treaters were walking on the 200 block of Pond Ridge Road shortly after 6 p.m. when, witnesses say, a speeding car jumped a curb, hit a mailbox and then struck the boy, police said. The driver then sped away, police said.

The boy was conscious and breathing when firefighters arrived. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment and was expected to be released Wednesday night, police said.

Police are seeking help locating the vehicle and its driver. The vehicle was described as gray Nissan or Lexus four-door sedan with tinted windows. The vehicle was damaged on the front passenger's sided.

Police also are asking all car dealerships and body shops to watch for any vehicle matching the description brought in for repairs.

Anyone with information should call (847) 362-8310.
