Turn and look again at the Week in Pictures

Daily Herald photographers saw a lot of interesting things this week and share them with you

As I photographed St. Charles East against Lake Park in a boys soccer game in Addison Tuesday evening, I couldn't ignore the October full moon rising over the eastern horizon. I hoped for geese to cross the sky between the moon and I but realized that the Benet Academy boys soccer team was warming up in the field where the geese were nestled. I waited and watched and when I saw their drills end and the players start to kick the practice soccer balls high into the air, I knew I had a chance at a photo. The most difficult part was trying to photograph the game action I was assigned to, and quickly changing the exposure and spin around to try and catch a kicked practice ball as it crossed the full moon. I was lucky to catch the right moment. I used a Nikon D5 camera with a 200-400 mm lens set at 400mm. My exposure was 1/800 sec, f/13, ISO 5000. The photo may have had smoother grain with a lower ISO but I didn't have time to make many adjustments between shooting two things at once that were 180 degrees from each other.
