Shots fired after disturbance at West Dundee house party

Shots were fired early Sunday in a West Dundee neighborhood after a disturbance at a nearby house party, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that the hosts of a party in the Grand Pointe subdivision refused entry to a group of people they did not know, prompting an argument to break out, according to a post on the West Dundee Facebook page. The unidentified group left the house, at which point one person mentioned having a gun.

Authorities arrived about 2:11 a.m. to find 30 to 40 people leaving the area on foot and in vehicles, police said. Officers then heard several gunshots coming from an adjacent street.

Shell casings were found on Karen Drive, though the offenders had already left the scene. Spokesman Dan Haines said police have found no evidence that any person or thing was struck by gunfire.

The house party was not in view of where the shell casings were found, he said, leading police to believe the offenders were not shooting at hosts or attendees. Authorities are speculating the shots may have been fired into the air.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and arrested a juvenile who does not live in the Fox Valley area, police said. Information about any charges filed was not immediately available.

Police are asking residents with external video surveillance systems to review their footage for vehicles driving in the Grand Pointe subdivision early Sunday. Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to call West Dundee Detective Michael Slager at (847) 551-3810.
