Two hurt in head-on DUI crash near Batavia that prompted airlift
Two people were injured in a head-on DUI crash about 6 p.m. Wednesday on Nelson Lake Road near Batavia that required one person to be airlifted to a hospital, authorities said.
Kari A. Brand, 23, of the 200 block of Planters Row, Geneva, was charged with driving under the influence and driving in the wrong lane in the crash, which closed a stretch of the road, according to Pat Gengler, chief deputy for the Kane County sheriff's office.
The crash, Gengler said, occurred when an Audi headed south on Nelson Lake Road, south of Main Street, was struck by a Toyota that was driving north when it entered the southbound lanes.
Brand, who was driving the Toyota, was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for injuries that turned out to be nonlife threatening, Gengler said. She was issued citations at the hospital. Her next court date was not immediately available.
The driver of the Audi, a 46-year-old woman from Sugar Grove, was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva for nonlife threatening injuries, Gengler said.
The women were the only occupants of their respective vehicles.
