Bail set at $75,000 for Glenbard East student accused of threatening school

A Glenbard East High School student is being held on $75,000 bail, accused of posting a threat on Instagram directed at the school.

Jairus Castillo, 18, of the 200 block of Blue Spruce Lane in Glendale Heights, has been charged with disorderly conduct involving the threat of violence at a school.

Prosecutors said Lombard police were tipped off to the post on Saturday. In the post, a male, not Castillo, was seen holding an AR-15 style rifle accompanied with the words "He's shooting up the school Monday 3rd period after the bell."

Castillo was arrested Sunday after an investigation.

"Threatening the safety and security of thousands of teachers, staff and students is not a joke," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "Any threat to the well-being of our students and teachers will be fully investigated and anyone suspected of such behavior will be charged accordingly."

Castillo's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19 before Judge Liam Brennan.
