Palatine man who stalked woman sentenced to mental health probation

A 65-year-old Palatine man has pleaded guilty to stalking a woman he had previously dated.

In exchange for pleading guilty this week to the felony, William Brice was sentenced to 364 days in jail, which he already served, and two years of mental health probation. Depending on their needs, defendants admitted to the program receive residential and/or outpatient treatment, assistance managing medication and psychosocial rehabilitation among other services.

Court records also show the judge ordered Brice to undergo substance abuse evaluation.

After knowing each other for 20 years, Brice and the woman began dating in March 2014. They broke up about six months later, and the woman did not hear from Brice until the spring 2016, when they got together as friends, prosecutors said.

In September 2017, the woman began receiving messages, calls and visits from Brice, who told her he "loved her to death," prosecutors said.

Court records show the judge granted the victim an order of protection through October 2022.
