Victim in Aurora shooting identified

One man was killed and a second injured after an unknown offender opened fire on their vehicle while they were parked in an Aurora coin laundry parking lot Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The dead man is Neal M. Brooks, 25, of the 400 block of North River Street in Aurora, police said late Thursday morning.

The other man is 32 years old and has addresses in Naperville and Chicago, police said.

The suspected shooter is described as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.

Police say he walked up to a vehicle on the 800 block of West Illinois Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday, fired into the vehicle and then ran off.

Both men were hit more than once by gunfire.

Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

The crime does not appear to be random, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Aurora Police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.

Callers to Crime Stoppers stay anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 if their tips lead to any arrests.
