Betsy DeVos visiting Harper College today

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos will visit Harper College in Palatine today to tour the school's apprenticeship program.

DeVos has advocated for educators to partner with businesses to offer students apprenticeships as a way to strengthen the U.S. workforce.

Harper College's apprenticeship program has eight areas: banking and finance; industrial maintenance; CNC precision machining; cybersecurity; general insurance; supply chain management and logistics; graphic arts print production; and sales and retail management.

DeVos plans to learn more about the school's partnerships with local employers that help expand the community's pool of qualified workers while providing students a no-cost education and employment upon graduation, according to an announcement of her visit.

DeVos also will hear from students and financial aid administrators about their experiences using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid mobile app, myStudentAid.
