Wauconda library evacuated after fire, no one hurt

The Wauconda Area Library was safely evacuated Tuesday morning after a fire was discovered on the roof near the main entrance.

No one was hurt in the 9 a.m. fire at the library, 801 N. Main St. Firefighters contained the blaze to the roof, keeping flames from entering the building.

Damage to the roof and front overhang was estimated at $50,000. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Wauconda firefighters were assisted on the scene by crews from Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Round Lake, the Countryside Fire Protection District and Nunda Rural Fire Protection District.

The library reopened about 11 a.m.
