Police arrest 2 men, seize 3 guns in Aurora shooting

Aurora police have arrested two men and seized three guns in connection with shots fired into a house on the city's near southeast side early Saturday morning.

No one was injured in the shooting, which occurred shortly before 2:40 a.m. on the 600 block of South Fourth Street, police said.

Eric M. Arias, 19, of the 600 block of South Fourth Street, Aurora, and Daniel Gaytan, 21, of the 400 block of Linden Avenue, Aurora, have been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies, according to police and Kane County court records.

Arias also is charged with possession of a firearm by a gang member, and police say the motive for the shooting was gang related.

According to authorities, police were called Saturday morning to the area of South Fourth Street and Marion Avenue for shots fired and learned two people ran into Arias' residence after shooting into a neighboring house.

Police surrounded the house, and Arias and Gayton were arrested as they exited. Authorities obtained a search warrant for the house and seized three guns and ammunition, police said.

Both Arias and Gaytan are held at the Kane County jail on $750,000 bail, meaning each must post $75,000 to be released while the cases are pending. If they do post bond, they are to stay at least 500 feet away from the 600 block of South Fourth and are to have no contact with each other, according to court records.

If convicted of the most severe charge, each man faces a punishment of four to 15 years in prison.

Aris is due in court Thursday, and Gaytan is due in court Friday.

Daniel Gaytan is being held on $750,000 bail after his Saturday arrest.
