Wheaton cops ask public for help to find intruder

Wheaton police are asking the public for help in a nearly 3-week-old probe into a home invasion involving an armed suspect.

Police on Friday said they responded at 2 a.m. Sept. 26 to a report of an intruder on the 500 block of Crescent Street. The resident apparently heard a noise and discovered a man wearing all black and displaying a handgun.

Both the resident and the suspect fled the home.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic in his 30s, standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall with acne scarring.

Police said it appears the gunman entered the home through an unlocked window. They said it appears to be an isolated case and there is no threat to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Lt. Bill Cooley at (630) 260-2077.
